The night of October 16th brought more wind than a vegetarian supper!! It came without warning, sort of a low "growl" outside the house, in the middle of the night, and rose to a deafening roar like a jet engine in reverse. (Well something was in reverse and it sure wasn't us!!) There wasn't a road in and out of Sissinghurst that hadn't been blocked by fallen trees and debris. Extensive damage was caused to many properties which took weeks and months to repair - Clearly the biggest thing to hit Sissinghurst since Wheeler's Bramleys!!
